Description

Eric Lerouge is best known (and rightly so) for the excellence of his fast ocean cruising catamarans (Freydis 46 and 49, Azuli, Maia...), but he has also brilliantly distinguished himself in the design of high-performance trimarans for cruise. His mastery of the water lines and the general balance of the ship works wonders. The Lerouge trimarans are modern, solid and fast, but do not neglect habitability. That of the magnificent Rayon Vert is exemplary! after a high-speed circumnavigation (coupled by Sylvette and henri Oligni), the trimaran performed brilliantly in the Multi50 class, illustrating astonishing versatility. The architect's ability to accommodate volumes and ergonomics is masterful, especially in modest sizes (Pulsar33-39, Libertist 853, etc.).

Eric Lerouge's philosophy for the Pulsar 33

“The trimaran is an interesting answer to the complex problem of the small cruising multihull. The central hull is very flared to give accommodations similar to those of monohulls with a real double cabin forward, a saloon, a galley with headroom, toilets and a double cabin under the cockpit.
Added to this are remarkable nautical qualities which increase pleasure and range of action, the absence of heeling and a very large deck area.

The Pulsar 33 being designed from the outset for cruising, a fixed engine was requested, the size of a daggerboard well would have been unacceptable in the saloon and a problem-free beaching was desired. This led us to innovate by adapting fixed fins to the trimaran, which have given good results on our catamarans. The engine is centered under the saloon floor with a propeller shaft streamlined by the keel. Long, bulky floats provide security and power in the breeze. The three rudders control the boat perfectly both under sail and when maneuvering under power. The rig is particularly efficient with its rotating carbon mast but remains easy to handle with lazy-jacks and jib furler. The fixed bowsprit facilitates the maneuvering of light sails. The composite arms are removable for easy wintering or are simply laminated to the hulls.’
Erik Lerouge.
